5 Surprising Facts About Our Winter Shoot
A sneak peek behind the scenes with Tarocash
1. We shoot in the middle of Summer.
Our campaign video looks chilly, right?
Our model Jai is bundled up in jumpers and jackets, looking stylish as ever. It reminds you of a cold Winter’s morning.
On this day it was actually 31 degrees and humid.
2. Remote locations can be challenging.
Shooting in the Blue Mountains was beautiful. The waterfall, the forest, the sounds of birds. And absolutely no electricity.
This becomes a problem when you need to steam 72 items of clothing.
We lugged along a 30kg generator as we climbed down the mountain to Empress Falls, our trusty steamer balanced precariously on rocks and roots.
3. The battle of the elements.
On our campaign shoot we were battling all of the elements. From searing heat to steep climbs, there was an endless list of challenges.
But the most difficult to manage, the most unpredictable of all of these…was other people.
During the shoot we were constantly maneuvering around hikers, bird watchers, jubilant swimmers and even abseilers! If you look at our waterfall shots you would never know that a group of 8 abseilers were descending at the same time in yellow and black gear!
4. It takes a village.
This may come as no surprise, but shooting our Winter campaign really does take a village.
We had a makeup artist ensuring Jai looked just right, a stylist tucking in shirts and expertly cuffing chinos and an art director planning each shot and keeping an eye on the time.
Our marketing assistants were racing back and forth with products and lighting assistants holding up reflectors, videographers capturing the footage, and of course our incredible photographer Steven Chee taking each shot.
We even recruited some locals! We had two local fireman with us to help us navigate the descents and climbs with all of our gear. One of them was the amazing Frank who was 71 years old! He put many of the younger crew to shame with his fitness (and also donated his fee to the local fire station). What a hero!
5. It’s not all that luxurious.
A campaign shoot in the Blue Mountains might sound luxurious, but believe us, it’s not.
We had a lot to do in a short space of time so our day was long, fast-paced and non-stop.
Our model was starting to tire, and our team looked like the cast of Lost. By the time our art director yelled ‘that’s a wrap’, we were all ready for a cold shower and a nap… But we still had the hike back up the mountain to conquer first.
